IADB approves loans for Latin American projects in four countries

The Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) approved a US$ 150 million non-sovereign guaranteed loan in December to Empresa de Generacion Huallaga, to help finance construction of the 406 MW Chaglla hydro project on Peru's Huallaga river. The US$ 1.2 billion project will be Peru's second largest hydropower plant, and will contribute about 13 per cent of the country's installed hydro capacity when complete in January 2016. Chaglla is expected to produce 2545 GWh/year, or about 15 per cent of the country's projected demand in 2016.
