A joint venture of GE Hydro China and Power China Zhongnan Engineering Corporation has been awarded a contract by Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for the electro-mechanical works of the first phase of the 4320 MW Dasu hydro project on the river Indus. The contract, worth PKr 52.5 billion (US$ 734 million) was signed in late November and includes the design, supply and installation of six Francis turbines, generators, main transformers, generators and switchgear, along with related equipment, according to Pakistan's state hydro-power producer.
