BUILDING REFURBISHMENT IN HISTORICAL CITY CENTERS

Building refurbishment in historical areas is a key factor for better quality of life and contributes to being more attractive for new comers. Both of these aspects play an important role in preventing the decreasing number of people living and working in most European historical centers. However, construction facilities are scarce in these environments, thus requiring further care from project participants. In this paper a review is made on the most significant inconveniences of construction activity in historical centers. The results of an inquiry made to historical Portuguese city authorities are presented and conclusions are drawn.
