Reduction of flow oscillation of natural circulation in non-inertial system

摘要

This paper theoretically studied the methodology to reduce the flow oscillation of natural circulation in non-inertial systems. Based on Zhu's circulation theorem of fluid mechanics developed for non-inertial system, the influence of loop configuration and the angular acceleration vector (including its magnitude and direction) on the flow oscillation were explored. To provide physical intuition and numerical proof, CFD simulations were also carried out. Both the theorem and CFD simulations showed that the flow oscillation increased with angular acceleration and the area enclosed by the loop, but decreased with the angle between the loop normal vector and the angular acceleration. More importantly, as Zhu's theorem obeys the right hand rule, the loop can be managed to possess zero enclosed area (e.g. Mobius-Strip) and effectively reduce the flow oscillation without increasing the flow resistance.
