The writers thank the discussers for appraising and discussing some of the key points of the writers' paper. The matric suction values reported in the discussion for silty soil are quite high. Corresponding to a volumetric water content of 30%, the tensiometer reading for silty soil is 40 kPa instead of 150 kPa and the pressure membrane extractor (PME) reading is 600 kPa instead of 1,430 kPa. One of the main issues raised in the discussion is the maximum suction measured by using the tensiometer. The discussers have rightly pointed out the maximum measurement limit of the tensiometer (< 90 kPa). The results of the tensiometer presented in the study are below 80 kPa, and hence cavitation will not occur.
