This is a thought-provoking book, leading to some serious thinking whether human anthropogenic activities for short-term gain on a large scale are worth undertaking at the risk of serious climatic disturbances. In this context, reduction of grazing lands through creation of national parks and in other protected areas the construction of dams have led to devastating social effects. Neilson, in 2005, rightly said that human beings should live within limits of sustainability and if the combined global footprint is smaller than global ecological capacity we are still within limits of sustainability. But, if our combined global footprint is larger, then we are living beyond our means, and in a state of ecological deficit. This could be disastrous in future.
