摘要

The transmission lines in power system network are constantly exposed to faults which affect the system's reliability and security. It is of utmost importance to classify the transmission line faults as soon as they occur for faster operation of fault mitigation equipment. This paper describes a new technique which requires only current signals of one end of the transmission line and removes any concern about data synchronization. The transmission line has been simulated using Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) software and the analysis has been performed in MATLAB environment. Fractal features have been extracted from the current signals which include calculation of fractal dimension using box count and Higuchi's algorithm. An algorithm is developed using the calculated fractal dimensions to classify the different types of transmission line faults disregarding fault resistance and pre-fault conditions. The results show that the proposed technique is very effective and accurate for transmission line fault classification.
