摘要

Now that over 30 countries have completed their digital switchover by switching off analogue terrestrial television, we can begin to see where digital television is headed. National variations are immediately apparent. For countries that relied heavily on terrestrial reception and had only a few analogue TV services, digital switchover triggered a nationwide shift to multi-channel. For those where cable and satellite predominated the transition was less dramatic - and some of these, while having ended analogue terrestrial, still have a legacy of analogue cable. Satellite and cable - plus broadband now -are generally reducing the role of terrestrial reception but at different speeds in different countries.
