摘要

The project managers (PMs) role in effectively coordinating projects requires empirical understanding of the appropriate competencies to help engender success. A survey of Property Developers in Ghana was undertaken to help understand the core competencies they demand from PMs at the Conceptual Phase (CP) of Mass Housing Building Projects (MHBPs). Findings revealed competencies in the following modules: effective conceptualisation of project execution plans, knowledge in computer applications, knowledge of statutory obligations, effective communication and PM's commitment towards achieving functional projects. Given the non- existence of specific training regimes for PMs in the housing sector in developing countries such as Ghana, further study is proposed in establishing how PMs do acquire these competencies including the impact on their performance and/or efficiency in the sector.
