SHORTENED SPACE TIME BLOCK CODES WITH RATE GREATER THAN ONE

In this paper we present shortened space time block codes (STBC) with rate greater than 1.0. Based on the 4×4 and 8×8 orthogonal designs for real signals, we introduce two groups of codes, namely the 3-users and 5-users, respectively. For the first group, nine codes were found while for the second group only two codes were discovered. The overall rate is 1.5 and 1.67, respectively. These rates could be utilized by a single user or multiple users depending on the application requirement.
