Broadband Residential Multiservices Access Networks

This chapter presents a thorough discussion of broadband residential multiservices, also known as integrated access networks. Section X.1 provides an overview of broadband residential multiservices. Network architectures based on different network protocols, including the B-ISDN (Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network), the Ethernet, the SONET/SDH (Synchronous Optical Network/Digital Hierarchy), and the IP (Internet Protocol), are all introduced in Section X.1. In the following sections, X.2 to X.5, we discuss each of these network models in turn. Finally, a summary of these possible broadband residential access networks is presented in Section X.6.
