EVALUATION OF FRESH FM 105.9 COVID-19 SITUATION ROOM PROGRAMME AMONG SELECTED RESIDENTS OF IBADAN SOUTH-WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

This study evaluated COVID-19 situation room programme by Fresh FM 105.9 among selected residents of Ibadan South- West Local Government Area. The Agenda Sitting theory and Social Responsibility theory provided the theoretical framework for the study. The study used mixed- research approaches (Qualitative and Quantitative research approach). The paper adopted survey and Key Personality Interview (KPI). The instruments of data collection for the study were questionnaire and interview. Simple random sampling was employed to select 100 residents leaving around Ring-Road and Challenge areas of the local government to form the sample size for the study and interview section was conducted with the anchor of the programme. Results obtained were analyzed and presented in simple percentage tables. Findings show that residents of Ibadan South-West Local Government area listen to Fresh FM. Fresh FM has an average of 8,000 views daily on fresh FM Facebook live, and massive listenership via radio. The programme has improved the residents' personal hygiene and sanitation. It teaches necessary precautions to take against COVID-19 and through the programme; the government went into action in the areas of noncompliance and lackadaisical attitude to COVID-19 regulations. The study recommends that Fresh FM 105.9 COVID-19 situation programme should maintain the pace of the programme in creating awareness and educating the citizens of Oyo State, radio stations should know that citizens participate in radio programmes through phone-in, social media platforms and text messages and they should explore these options in achieving the aims of programmes in fight against COVID-19.
