Development of survey instrument for software professionals' job stress: a factor and confirmatory factor analysis approach

摘要

Stress is an inevitable and unavoidable part of life due to increasing complexities and competitiveness in living standards. In the fast changing world of today, no individual is free from stress and no profession is stress-free. Thus, stress has become the core concern in the life of everyone. Keeping in view the above facts, this instrument was designed to examine the various factors of job stress, which was administrated to a wide range of the software professionals. Eight sub-scale emerged from data analysis: 1) career progress; 2) fear of obsolescence; 3) work-family interface; 4) quantitative demands; 5) job complexity; 6) role overload; 7) role conflict; 8) changes in organisation. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis showed that the scale has both high reliability and validity as a measure of job stress.
