The lightweighting of glass containers has been one of the glass industry's most important developments over the past years and is still continuing as we refine our knowledge of the many technical aspects related to the glass forming process. In this article Toyo Glass will describe its approach to eliminate the presence of internal surface inclusions (ISI) which can cause a drasth reduction in impact resistance and lead to breakage oh the customers filling line. While ultra lightweight containers are normally associated with non-returnable, or one-way, bottles mis article will also describe a new Toyo Glass development by means of which a resin coated ultra lightweight container gives excellent performance as a returnable packaging.
