Finding gas in Uzbekistan was once a problem: the landlocked country's only market was its also landlocked neighbors. But gas to liquids schemes, Russian demand and economic growth in its own backyard have improved the outlook for gas.rnForeign companies are taking a closer look at the gas reserves in Uzbekistan. Although oil is the immediate priority, gas has attracted significant interest: it can be exported as it is, or in the form of more easily transported diesel or petrochemicals such as methanol. The country's biggest projected inward investment is Lukoil's $5.5 billion program to develop the Kandym-Hauzak-Shady-Kungrad complex of natural gas fields.
