Uruguay to play local hub role

The construction of a future regas LNG terminal in the capital Montevideo (IGR 616/29) will bolster gas-supply security not only in Uruguay but supply gas to countries such as Argentina, Irani Varella, Petrobras Uruguay president, told Platts.rn"Our [$100 million] investments in Uruguay, especially in the [construction of the future] regas plant, would allow Petrobras greater gas-supply flexibility for markets in the Mercosur region [Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay]," he said, adding that in Uruguay alone, the regas terminal would help supply its two distributors, Montevideo Gas and Contecta (IGR 619/28).
