Global LNG trade was recorded at 117.9 million mt (5.51 Tcf or 155.86 billion cubic meters of gas) in the first half of 2013, to all intents and purposes unchanged on the year before. Asia, hungry as ever paid up, while European consumers stepped back and tried to cut their losses on pipeline deliveries. Demand in Asia increased 6.6% year over year in the first half, driven mainly by increases in South Korea and the startup of new plants in southeast Asia. Imports to Korea rosel6% to 21.4 million mt in the first half of 2013, owing to warmer-than-average summer temperatures in June and unexpected dips in nuclear power generation after false certification of parts.
