Nomura boosts Americas business with 15 hires

Nomura has revealed a clear intent to take a bigger share of investment banking revenues in the Americas, with 15 new hires to its business in the region -including a new head of equity syndicate. The Japanese bank has already been expanding on the trading side in the region, with hires in the rates and credit areas last year. That investment helped the region to its best quarter in years in the three months to the end of March, when the Americas became the bank's biggest earner in its wholesale division. The latest hires signal the bank wants to make a similar step-change in its investment banking platform too. The hires are across the industrials, financial sponsors, mergers and acquisitions, consumer retail, healthcare and equity capital markets businesses - as well as in Brazil.
