In a sudden attack of prescience and foresight lacking from its management team during the credit boom and purchase of ABN AMRO, RBS has published full details of its contingency plan in the event the Scots vote "yes" to independence. Scotland's finest will re-domicile its holding company and primary rated operating entity to England - and who can blame it for showing loyalty to the Sassenachs? The bank is, after all, majority-owned by the UK government. But if Scotland's electorate can decide on its independence, then perhaps the UK taxpayer should vote on its own "contingency plan" for RBS. Bellwether believes it could be time for the bank to be returned to its rightful owner - a newly independent Scottish government.
