Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so IFR should have been (kind of) pleased to discover that some of Hong Kong's less scrupulous business newspapers have started phoning banks pretending to be IFR staff to get information. When a banker asked one of these imposters for his phone number, he hung up. "We know it's them because their phone number is not displayed and they go straight to asking how many times a deal is covered," said one banker, who sounded like a man who preferred to be romanced when being pumped for information. IFR reporters are of course, cut from far more gallant, charming cloth.
