Congratulations are in order for Deutsche Bank - or at least for its logo, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last week. To the untutored eye, the logo may look like a diagonal blue line in a box, but according to a Bank press release commemorating the event, it is in fact "a timeless piece of minimal art, symbolising the Bank's standing as one of the leading client-centric global universal banks". The logo is currently showing at BrandSpace, "a unique forum launched in 2011 which invites members of the public to experience the Deutsche Bank brand". The design may be timeless, but the narrative that underpins it belongs to a different era. The logo was created rnby the late German designer Anton Stankowski, who described it at the time as a symbol for "growth in a stable environment" - not something Deutsche is enjoying at the moment.
