Supply slides as risks mount

Emerging markets bond issuance volumes hit their lowest January levels since 2010, with fundraising from the CEEMEA region dwindling to a six-year low and from Latin America to a five-year low. Just US$42.6bn was raised by emerging markets issuers during the month, USS1bn shy of the US$43.67bn of international bonds sold in January 2011, according to Thomson Reuters. The amount raised this January is also in stark contrast with 12 months ago, when borrowers issued a record US$72.53bn.
