Credit default swap traders remember all too well the near-debacle when Greece's debt restructuring in 2012 unearthed major flaws in CDS contracts. It was only a matter of luck that the market avoided a huge mismatch between CDS recoveries and bondholder losses. Not surprisingly, those events led to a wholesale re-writing of the definitions.
