Papua New Guinea is following in the footsteps of other Asian frontier sovereigns in tapping the syndicated loan market for a US$200m five-year borrowing. The country turned to the loan market after having explored a bond offering a few months ago. In June, it met fixed-income investors in London, Boston and New York via ANZ, Bank of China, JP Morgan and Societe Generale, but, so far, no bond offering has materialised. Three years ago, PNG hired Barclays, BNP Paribas and JP Morgan to offer US dollar bonds, but that came to nought.
