ICE boss calls on UK to stem exchange exodus

The UK government must do more to support exchanges and clearing venues if it is to maintain London's position as a top global financial centre, a senior exchange head warned last week. Jeffrey Sprecher, CEO of the intercontinental exchance, told delegates at the FIA's International Derivatives Expo in London that Britain must show its appreciation of London-based exchange businesses in light of growing competition from other European Union jurisdictions, including France, Germany and the Netherlands, as the UK begins negotiations to leave the bloc. "These businesses have been identified by other countries as important to their capital markets and important for job creation," said Sprecher. "To a certain extent, the UK has taken our presence here for granted."
