Chinese property developers are being urged to look at very short-dated US dollar bonds as a way around tighter scrutiny of offshore borrowing. Earlier this month, GREENLAND HOLDING GROUP, via wholly owned subsidiary Greenland Global Investment, privately placed US$320m of 364-day dollar bonds at par to yield 3.85%, and banks are busy gauging investor interest for similar deals. "Many banks have pitched this kind of short-dated bond to us, but whether the developers will print out the deals is yet to be seen," said Elaine Hu, a portfolio manager at Value Partners.
