Bankrupt rental car company HERTZ GLOBAL HOLDINGS is likely to become the object of a bidding war between rival investor factions led by Knighthead Capital Management in one camp and Centerbridge Partners in the other. Hertz originally chose an "enhanced proposal" from Centerbridge, Warburg Pincus and Dundon Capital Partners to provide the equity capital required to fund its exit from bankruptcy protection. But last week, the car rental company switched track and chose a bid by Knighthead, Certares Opportunities and Apollo Capital Management as the superior proposal. Hertz's decision doesn't guarantee Knighthead success, but it sets the bar for future bidders and Centerbridge is already preparing a higher bid, according to sources.
