The EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK priced its first digital bond on Tuesday, taking a bold step forward in developing the digitalisation of capital markets through blockchain technology. Although this was not the first supranational digital bond to use distributed ledger technology -aka blockchain - the scope and nature of this transaction, including the use of a Banque de France digital token for settlement at the lead manager level, represent significant progress and as such it is more likely to have a lasting impact than previous proof-of-concept efforts.
