The Japanese stock market had an embarrassing start to the second fiscal half year as a hardware failure forced the TOKYO STOCK EXCHANGE to halt trading in all listed shares for the whole day. The exchange explained that an attempt to switch from the failed device to a backup device also failed, preventing market information from being distributed.
