THE WORLD ECONOMIC Forum has responded to Covid 19 with its "Great Reset" initiative, which to anyone who's grappled with slow WiFi while working from home sounds like it involves switching the world off then switching it back on again. But apparently, it's way more complicated than that. The Great Reset involves bringing together "global stakeholders" to improve the state of the world. But it's clear the world is in too much of a state for global stakeholders to actually meet because the WEF has just cancelled Davos 2021. In the scale of bad things that have happened this year, postponing a gathering of the global business and political elite ranks lower than cancelling Glastonbury and the European football championship, although it's bad news for any banker who enjoys skiing, and it means Bellwether's dream of seeing Christian Sewing and U2's Bono co-hosting a panel on correspondent banking will have to wait for another year.
