Solid US economy seen as bedrock for ABS

Lenders and property owners should have an easy time in 2020 to tap the US structured finance market as investors are expected to remain confident in buying their bonds on credit fundamentals staying sound in a growing economy. Most Wall Street analysts forecast issuance of securitised consumer and business assets will likely run close to this year's levels or fall modestly. Consumer and business refinancing activity will likely cool a bit following reaction to the Federal Reserve's three interest rate cuts in 2019. "We feel the best about the consumers, which is supportive for structured products," said Gene Tannuzzo, deputy global head of fixed income at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.
