Water Swellable Coatings Find New Applications in Consumer Products

Fiber-LINE~R is na established leader in pio-neering, developing and manufacturing water swellable coated products, including coated fibers and coated fiberglass rod (FRP). This coating was first introduced to the industry in the early 1990s to prevent the migration of water inside cables. Fiber-Line developed a special coating process that enables us to put this water swellable coating on a variety of synthetic fibers and FRP. The coating is a blend of fine Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) in a resin matrix. We were granted a patent for this process and the product is now known as SWELLCOAT~(TM). This coating can be applied to any synthetic fiber and, in its traditional use, has been an easy way to introduce SAP into cables.
