France Implements Recycling Regulations On Obsolete Vehicles in Line With EU Rules

Paris—France May 24 implemented new rules on the collection and disposal of end-of-life vehicles, including mandatory recycling and reuse rates, licensing for authorized recyclers, and increased transparency for the estimated 1.5 million cars and trucks taken off the roads each year.rnThe new environment ministry rules—which transpose EU Directive 2000/53/EC on End-of-Life Vehicles to French law—will require recyclers to immediately ensure that end-of-life vehicles are at least 80 percent recycled and/or reused, and 85 percent reused and/or recovered.
