Corporate Reporting Of Climate-data Rises In Canada, But Board Says More Needed

Major Canadian corporations have significantly improved the quantity and quality of their reporting on climate change-related information, but more work is needed to ensure that all corporate entities make information available to investors, the Conference Board of Canada said Nov. 5. The Carbon Disclosure Project's sixth information request to major Canadian companies for the first time produced responses from the majority of the 200 companies surveyed-55 percent-up from the 45 percent in 2007, the Ottawa-based economic research group said in a report on the Canadian respondents to the Carbon Disclosure Project survey, which collects information on corporate climate change strategies. "This year witnessed another significant increase in response rates as additional high-carbon impact sector companies and large-capitalization companies responded to the investor request. An improvement in the overall quality of climate change disclosure has also been achieved," the report said.
