Poland Issues Draft Document Setting Environmental Priorities Through 2010

Poland unveiled its draft of environmental priorities the government will seek to implement through 2010, with "prospects" to 2014, a government official told BNA Sept. 29. The 39-page draft, Priorities in the Environmental Policy of the State between 2007-2010, with Prospects up to 2014, is slated for approval by the Parliament in November, Elzbieta Strucka, spokeswoman for the Environment Ministry, told BNA. The draft was released a year later than required under law. The draft focused on the huge tasks the country faces in the areas of construction of water and sewage treatment facilities and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through 2015. It also outlined a timetable for the implementation of the European Union Directive 2004/35/EC on environmental liability with regard to prevention and remedying of environmental damage, as well as Directive 2007/60/EC on the assessment and management of flood risks.
