Global Carbon Concentrations Accelerating At Almost Four Times Growth Rate of 1990s

The global concentration of carbon dioxide emissions has been increasing 3.5 percent a year since 2000, a rate of growth nearly four times what it was in the 1990s, the Global Carbon Project said in a report released Sept. 26. Atmospheric concentrations of the greenhouse gas reached 383 parts per million in 2007, a 37 percent increase over the preindustrial levels of the mid-1700s and the highest concentrations in more than 650,000 years, according to the study, Global Carbon Project (2008) Carbon Budget and Trends 2007.
