Program Offers Early Action Credit For Greenhouse Gas Emissions Cuts

Canada's Ministry of the Environment June 28 launched the first phase of the Credit for Early Action Program to reward major greenhouse gas emitters who significantly reduced their emissions between 1992 and 2006. The program is designed to recognize facilities that took a leadership role in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, and it is a key element in the federal government's overall plan, unveiled in April 2007, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent from 2006 levels by 2020, Environment Minister John Baird said in a statement.
