摘要

The Peruvian government April 19 put the sewage system in the country's capital, Lima, under a state of emergency to prevent a possible total collapse of collection and disposal centers. Supreme Decree 030-2008-PCM, published the same day, established an emergency for 60 days to give the city's water and sewage company, Sedapal, time to repair infrastructure at the principal disposal site in the city's San Miguel district. The pipeline that pumps wastewater into the ocean ruptured in March. Sedapal has diverted wastewater from the city's 8 million residents to other disposal sites, but they, too, are antiquated. The decree states that the northern transfer center "runs a risk similar to what happened with San Miguel."
