The Federal Court of Australia Jan. 15 ordered a Japanese whaling company be restrained from further hunting in the Australian Whale Sanctuary, finding that whaling in the area constitutes a breach of Australia's biodiversity protection law (Humane Society International Inc. v. The Australian Whale Sanctuary is within 200 nautical miles of the Australian Antarctic Territory and claimed as part of Australia's Exclusive Economic Zone.
