The New Brunswick government's proposed sale of its electric utility, NB Power, to Quebec utility Hydro-Quebec would lead to an estimated 11 percent reduction in New Brunswick's greenhouse gas emissions, provincial Environment Minister Rick Miles said Nov. 25.rnHydro-Quebec's acquisition of NB Power's distribution system would allow Hydro-Quebec to service electricity customers in the neighboring Canadian province with production from its hydroelectric generating facilities. This would pave the way for coal-fired power plants at Grand Lake and Dalhousie to be decommissioned.
