EU Commission Switches Tire Efficiency Label Proposals From Directive to Regulation

The European Commission has agreed to a request of the European Parliament and has reissued proposals for the environmental labeling of tires as a regulation, rather than as a directive.rnIf adopted as a regulation the measure will have equal force throughout the European Union rather than having to be transposed by each member state, as is required for a directive.rnThe amended proposals, which have not been made public but were obtained by BNA July 10, also would tighten obligations on tire suppliers by requiring them to publish on their websites tire "rolling resistance coefficient [s], the external rolling noise measured value and where applicable, the wet grip index."
