The International Organization for Standardization will have online by August a freely accessible database with standardized terms for environmental, chemical, and other topics, an ISO committee chairman told BNA June 16.rnPeter Hatto, chairman of ISO's Technical Committee 229 (ISO TC 229), which is developing standards related to nanotechnology, said the ISO Concept Database will store terms, symbols, and other concepts used by various ISO committees.rnPeople may not realize it, but a term as simple as "environment," can have many different definitions depending on its context, said Hatto, who directs research at IonBond, a British advanced coatings company.rnA number of ISO committees are developing the database, including panels working on health, industrial automation, and product classification, the organization said.
