EU Agency Says Listing of Chemicals For Bans Under REACH to Increase in 2011

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in 2011 expects to add 40 substances to its list of hazardous chemicals that could be restricted or banned under the European Union's REACH law, the agency's head said Oct. 4.rnThis would bring to 78 the number of the hazardous chemicals on the REACH "candidate list of substances of very high concern for authorization" and would represent a near doubling of the number added to the list in 2010, ECHA Executive Director Geert Dancet said on the sidelines of the agency's Fifth Stakeholders' Day conference in Helsinki, Finland.
