摘要

Beijing is installing four monitoring towers to enable it to measure carbon dioxide emissions. One 50-meter (54.7-yard) tower in the Daxing District of south Beijing has been built, according to Wang Xiaoping, director of the Beijing Forestry Carbon Sequestration office. Another in the Chongwen district east of the city center is expected to be finished by August. Towers also will be built in the Tongzhou District east of Beijing and at the Badaling site of the Great Wall north of the city, Wang told BNA May 4. The towers will be a part of a 33-site network in and around Beijing to allow researchers to monitor carbon dioxide emissions and forest growth. The information will be fed into a real-time monitoring database displaying carbon dioxide emissions that will be "measurable, reportable, and verifiable," Wang said.
