China has become a leading market for both the import and export of forest products, mirroring the growth in the country's economy, according to a U.N. report issued Jan. 19.rnThe report from the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe and the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization noted that China is the world's fifth biggest exporter of forestry goods, accounting for 8 percent of global sales, and the world's biggest exporter of furniture. Total output from the forestry sector in China tripled between 1999 and 2008.
