U.K. Aims for Carbon-Free Heating by 2050, Delays Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive

A Heat Strategy published March 29 by the U.K. government sets out the challenges Britain faces to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heating businesses, industry, and homes by mid-century. The document describes three stages: from 2012 to the end of this decade; for the 2020s and 2030s when low-carbon heat technologies will have to be widely adopted; and to the 2050 goal of achieving carbon-free heating for buildings. The Department for Energy and Climate Change said it is seeking views on alternatives to the use of traditional fossil fuels in an informal consultation and plans to develop specific policy proposals within the next 12 months.
