A Brazilian judge Jan. 22 canceled the preliminary license for a zinc mine, saying the developer's environmental impact studies could not guarantee the mine's environmental viability, according to a court spokeswoman. State Court Judge Monika Alves issued the ruling (No. 0710.11.000256-7) in the judicial region that encompasses Vazante County, in east-central Minas Gerais state, where the mine was to be dug by Votoran-tim Metais.
