Denmark will use its six-month term as president of the Council of the European Union to persuade other EU governments to endorse a low-carbon road map that calls for overall emission reductions of 40 percent by 2030 and 60 percent by 2040, the Danish climate and energy minister said Jan. 24. Denmark also will seek to make progress on revising EU energy efficiency legislation as proposed in June 2011 by the European Commission, the bloc's executive arm, Minister Martin Lidegaard said (34 INER 642, 7/6/11).
