Brazilian Judge Allows Licensing to Proceed For Canadian Company's Gold Mining Venture

A federal appeals court in Brazil has overturned an injunction that suspended the environmental licensing of a large Amazon gold mining project being developed by Canada's Belo Sun Mining Corp. Judge Jirair Aram Meguerian of the first regional federal appeals court in Brasilia (TRF1) ruled Nov. 26 (Case No. 0002505-70.2013.4.01.3903) that project licensing could continue "as long as consultation with indigenous peoples is part of the licensing process."
