India Invites Bids for 750 MW of Solar Power Projects; Half Must Have Domestic Content

The Indian government has invited bids to install 750 megawatts of grid-connected solar photovoltaic projects under the second phase of the National Solar Mission. All projects will be eligible for "viability gap funding" from the government, according to an Oct. 4 announcement on the Solar Energy Corporation of India's website. Bids are due by Nov. 29. Draft guidelines announced simultaneously by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy specify a domestic content mandate. Of the 750 megawatt total, 375 megawatts of capacity would have to be installed using solar cells and modules made in India. Developers may compete in either or both of the open and domestic content categories.
